Life Care Center of Columbia associates prepare to greet evacuees.

As Hurricane Irma roared toward Florida, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina, Life Care Center of Columbia, South Carolina, took in 37 hurricane evacuees.

The residents from Life Care Center of Hilton Head, South Carolina, arrived on Friday, Sept. 8, along with several associates. Life Care Center of Columbia associates and several residents greeted the visitors with welcome signs.

At the facility, the guests took up temporary residence on one unit, and associates put recliners in one of the lounges for the Hilton Head associates to use to get some rest.

“Most of the residents I spoke to were very pleased with our facility and thankful we were able to accommodate them,” said Tina Thompson, admissions coordinator.

Life Care Center of Columbia was not impacted by the storm, and the group was able to return home to Life Care Center of Hilton Head on Wednesday, Sept. 13.

“Thanks to all the staff and residents at Life Care Center of Columbia for their compassion, love and care for our seniors,” said Thompson.
