There’s something special about bingo when the numbers are called by a dynamic, celebrity guest caller.
That’s the way the team at Life Care Center of Columbia, South Carolina, sees it. In recognition of its 25th anniversary, the facility decided to make a simple game of bingo even more fun. With that, a year-long celebration called Celebrity Bingo was formed – and what a success it has been!
In conjunction with the activities department team, the business development department worked to add a little flare to the traditional game of bingo.
“We wanted to make bingo more than just a standard calendar appointment; we wanted to bring some zest and pizazz to it,” said Dana Tucker, director of business development. “Celebrity Bingo is doing just that for the patients and residents, while simultaneously bringing in new and curious visitors to the building.”
Each month throughout 2019 will feature a different local Celebrity Bingo guest caller.
If the first round of Celebrity Bingo is any indication of the team’s success, the mission is being accomplished. Darci Strickland, an anchorwoman for local CBS affiliate WLTX News 19, was all in when she was asked to participate as the February guest caller. She even brought a box full of News 19 gifts for the participants and autographed her headshot for each of them. Strickland’s popular persona ensured a great turnout.
For the February event, Tucker also tied in a monthly health care observance by passing out heart health information and serving heart-healthy fare.
The event was later covered on Strickland’s “Friends at Five” news hour.
The second installment of Celebrity Bingo took place on March 21 with Claire Richardson, morning anchorwoman from WOLO-TV 25, an ABC affiliate, as the guest caller. During this event, the facility observed Kidney Disease Month and shared pertinent information from the National Kidney Foundation while Claire Richardson called letters and numbers for bingo.
“Each month of Celebrity Bingo professes to be an exhilarating moment for Life Care Center of Columbia as we continue to celebrate 25 years with flair and pizazz!” said Tucker.
